The First Dog Insurance Policy
It was the 8th of August 1957 when the New York State Insurance Department licensed the Animal Insurance Company of America as the first company to be able to underwrite dog insurance. The policies, limited to pedigrees only, could be insured for up to $5,000 and only cover the event of death, not general health issues or treatments.
