Types Of Cover

With all the different dog insurance providers on the market it can be confusing at times to find the right types of cover. Many dog owners will purchase dog insurance based on the number of features a particular policy provides and whether or not the cover includes extra benefits such as treatment for you dog abroad etc. However some policies are restricted and have various limits so making sure you have the correct level of cover in place is vital.

Typically there are three main types of cover:

  • Life Time Cover
  • Per Condition Cover
  • Annual Cover

Life time cover is usually the most expensive type of cover for your dog as it covers for ongoing illnesses throughout the duration of their life time such a cancer for example. Annual cover is most often the cheapest type of dog insurance and basically covers your dog for one off illnesses or treatments during a 12 month period. After the 12 month period is up the policy needs to be renewed and premiums can increase or decrease depending on whether you have made a claim or not. Finally Per Condition cover is a type of cover that allows the dog owner to claim for each individual illness or treatment and continues until the policy limit is reached.

There are also three more specialist types of dog insurance which are available to dog owners and these include dog health insurance, dog walking insurance and older dog insurance which are all explained in more detail on this site.
